Terms of Service
These terms cover using Retrove, on the web and in our app. Retrove is a curated vintage marketplace operated by Uwa Osagie, a sole trader in the United Kingdom (contact info@retroveclothing.com). Independent vintage shops sell their pieces through Retrove, and members can re-sell pieces they bought here. The shop or member listing a piece is its seller. Retrove provides the platform: we take payment, arrange postage, and handle customer support and returns, so we are always your point of contact.
Your account
You can browse freely, but you need an account to buy, sell, post or use our AI features. You sign in with a one-time link or code sent to your email, so keep that email address current. Your account is yours alone: tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
One-of-a-kind stock
Almost everything on Retrove is unique, and the same piece may also be on the rail in the physical shop. We keep stock in sync, but in the rare case an item sells in store at the same moment you order it online, we will cancel that order and refund you in full. Nothing else is affected.
Placing an order
Your order is an offer to buy. A contract forms once your payment is confirmed and your order is accepted. If an order cannot be fulfilled, we will tell you and refund any payment in full.
Prices, currency and payment
Each piece is priced in its shop's own currency: pounds for UK shops, dollars for US shops, and so on. You pay in that currency, and each order is placed with one shop in one currency. If your card is in a different currency, your bank converts at its own rate. Delivery is shown separately at checkout. Payment is taken securely through Stripe at the time you order. We do not store your card details.
Delivery
Each shop posts its own parcel, normally within 48 hours of your order, by a tracked service: Royal Mail in the UK, and carriers such as USPS or Canada Post elsewhere. Delivery from a UK shop to a UK address is a flat rate per shop; all other delivery is quoted at the carrier's real rate for your address at checkout. Delivery times are estimates. Risk in the item passes to you on delivery.
International orders and customs
Buyers in the UK, US, Canada and Australia can buy from participating shops abroad. International parcels travel with a customs declaration and are sent DDU (delivered duty unpaid). That means the price you pay at checkout does not include any import duty, VAT, GST or carrier handling fee your country may charge, and you are responsible for paying those charges when the parcel arrives. If a parcel is held or sent back because charges were not paid, get in touch and we will work out next steps with you and the shop.
Condition of vintage items
Every piece is pre-owned and sold as described. Genuine vintage carries honest signs of age, and notable flaws are described in the listing. If anything is unclear before you buy, just ask.
Your right to cancel and return
When you buy from a shop, you have 14 days from the day your piece is delivered to change your mind and return it, for any reason, under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Start the return from your order page. Return the piece unworn and in the condition you received it. You cover the cost of return postage: for UK returns we provide a tracked return label for a small flat fee when you start the return. We refund the price you paid within 14 days of the piece arriving back. International returns are arranged manually for now: contact the shop through your order page and we will help set it up. You still cover the return postage. In-store purchases are final and cannot be returned online.
Return disputes
If a shop declines your return inside the 14-day window, that is not the end of it. The return becomes a dispute and Retrove steps in to adjudicate, with the starting point that an in-window return is refunded. Outside the window a shop may decline a return, and you can still escalate to us if you think that is wrong. Nothing in this section limits your statutory rights.
Faulty or misdescribed items
Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 always apply to purchases from shops. If a piece arrives faulty or significantly different from its description, contact us and we will put it right with the shop through a repair, replacement or refund, with return postage covered.
Re-selling on Retrove
You can re-sell a piece you bought on Retrove. If you sell:
- Before your first payout you connect a Stripe account. Stripe runs its own identity checks before you can be paid, and your listing only goes live for payout once that is complete.
- When your piece sells, you receive 85 percent of the sale price, the shop it originally came from receives 5 percent, and Retrove keeps 10 percent as its platform fee.
- Your share is transferred to your connected account after the piece is delivered and the hold period has passed.
- You must own the piece, describe it honestly, and post it promptly, safely packed, by the method shown.
- You are responsible for any tax on what you earn.
If you buy a pre-loved piece, you are buying from the member who owns it, not from a business, so the 14-day change-of-mind right above does not apply. If a piece never arrives or is significantly not as described, contact us and we will step in. Every piece carries its passport: an anonymised record of its journey showing the origin shop and each owner as "Owner 1", "Owner 2" and so on, with month and year only. No personal details are ever shown on a passport.
Retrove+
Retrove+ is our optional subscription, with Plus (currently £6.99 a month) and Pro (currently £12.99 a month) tiers, billed monthly through Stripe on our website. Each tier includes a monthly allowance of AI try-ons and stylist looks, as set out on the Retrove+ page. Allowances reset each month and unused ones do not roll over. You can cancel at any time from your account through the billing portal, and you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. If prices or allowances change, we will tell you before your next renewal.
AI features
Try-on renders are AI-generated illustrations, not photographs. Fit, colour and drape in real life may differ, and a render does not form part of an item's description. Stylist suggestions are ideas, not promises. Free allowances are limited per account, and in the app per device, to keep them fair for everyone. Working around those limits, for example with multiple accounts, may lead to access being restricted.
Reels and community content
Members can post short videos (reels) and follow each other. All vintage fashion is welcome. Anything explicit, hateful or off-topic is not, and will be removed. Every reel is reviewed before it appears in the feed.
- You keep ownership of what you post. You grant Retrove a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, display and promote your content on Retrove and its channels for as long as it is posted. Delete a reel and that licence ends for it.
- Only post content you made or have the right to use, and get the agreement of anyone identifiable in it.
- Anyone can report a reel. Three independent reports hide it automatically until we have reviewed it again. Reporting is for genuine concerns, not for targeting other members.
- You can block another member. Blocking hides your content from each other and removes any follows between you.
- We may remove content that breaks these rules. Repeat or serious breaches will lose you the ability to post.
Acceptable use
Use Retrove lawfully and honestly. Do not list counterfeit or stolen goods, misuse other members' content or details, interfere with the platform, or scrape it with bots. We may remove listings or content, restrict features or suspend accounts where needed to keep Retrove safe and fair. Where we can, we will tell you why.
Our liability
Shops and resale sellers are responsible for their own items and listings. We do not exclude any liability that cannot be excluded by law, including your statutory rights as a consumer. Beyond that, our liability in connection with a purchase is limited to the price you paid for it, and in connection with Retrove+ to the subscription fees you have paid us.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Retrove grows. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will flag material changes on the site or in the app before they take effect.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes fall to its courts. If you buy from a country whose law gives you mandatory consumer protections, you keep them.
